What's New in SEO? Increasing Traffic - Online Business Ideas and ...

To earn money on the internet, search engine visibility is the key for your websites. Building a solid base for free website traffic is nearly impossible without it. There are some exceptions, such as Facebook and other social media platforms, but most traffic will come from Google. If you want to be able to work from home with internet marketing, you have to learn how to get your websites to rank high in Google. Other search engines work well for a decent volume of web traffic, but they take much longer to index your sites, and they only comprise approximately one third of the total search engine traffic.

So how is it done? How does one put their site at the top of major search engines? It can provide information overload very quickly, but there are some proven methods that work. You're going to need links that point back to your website. However, you need quality backlinks. It is not about quantity as much as it is quality. You still need to have plenty of them, but links can now actually hurt your site as well if they are considered spam. Search engine crawlers are becoming very advanced, and they can easily sort out the junk produced with automated software. You can get backlinks easily with the right kind of software, but you need to know what works and what can poison your site's SEO.

PageRank is something that is attributed to websites over time by Google. PageRank ranges from 0 to 10, and the higher the PageRank the more trusted a website is in the eyes of Google. Acquiring a PageRank for your website should not be your primary concern as it is not directly related to the volume of web traffic you will get. However, you should be concerned with the PR where your backlinks are placed. Google knows that it is more difficult for internet marketers to get high PR links because they require some work. It is easily possible to get these high PR links automatically and with very little work if you know the right SEO software to use. Click the links at the bottom to discover more.

Guest blogging is another great way to get high quality anchor text links that point directly to your money site. Guest blogging is where you write a blog post for another website or blog, and if approved, you can put one or two backlinks in the article. The owner of the website will place the article you wrote in their blogroll, and this will give you some nice link juice. It takes work to go out and find and contact the other owners of blogs, but the easiest way is to leave a comment on their site or to contact them via email. Their contact information is usually found on their 'About' page.

While most webmasters concentrate on obtaining links to their websites, it's vital not to forget about social media marketing. Social media marketing shouldn't be used just to backlinks for better search engine visibility. You need to focus on providing value so that you can spark viral traffic and permanent followers. Take advantage of Google+ and YouTube to your advantage to promote your website or online business. Google+ is also great for local business advertising. Creating Facebook fan pages is another great way to promote your online business. Search engines will eventually locate your links on social media sites. However, the key is to get others to as many fans and followers as possible that will then promote your site. It works much like word-of-mouth marketing which is extremely powerful.

Automating the process of getting backlinks can greatly speed up the process. However, you must be careful with how you go about doing this. Automated software can damage and get your site penalized as quickly as it helped it initially. You definitely have to do your research when searching for automation software when it comes to SEO. You will want to do more than just read user reviews because most reviews are biased. The user reviews that rank high in the search engines are simply there because of the affiliate commissions they will get if you purchase through their site.

The Greatest Gaming Weaponry You Should Never Leave Home ...

Huzzah for the gunblade, deftly flailed by Squall Leonheart, protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII and angry, angry dude. He has a proclivity for waving this preposterous armament-hybrid above his head, jabbing the cat in the groin and making authentic youthful ?battle sounds,? a la children that point their fingers vociferously while emitting mahine gun sound effects.
You?re seventeen, Squall! This business is entirely unbecoming.

Except he doesn?t. When the dense miasma of I hate everybody, ever! Don?t talk to me! I?m going to hide in the corner and finish my crossword puzzle that had settled in that barnet of his dissipates, Squall (whose prospective monikers included Hurricane, Storm, Typhoon and? Billy) metamorphoses into quite the hero. What does any hero need? Weaponry of ostentatious proportions for stabbing dragons, mythical behemoths, bugs and elderly women right in the blood-bleeding face.

Squall, and his quasi-nemesis/homosexual lover Seifer are the game?s gunblade specialists. They have a certificate, presumably, to wield this oddity. Not one their mother wrote out in felt pen (?I think you?re cool, love mum?), the authentic article. This is no mere sword, the inferior likes of which any hobo can find in a dumpster and set off on a Crusade like the knights of yore (with faeces-stained trousers in lieu of chainmail), this is a sword? with half a gun anomalously implemented for no fathomable reason.

Gunblade 2

Source: www.psxextreme.com

It?s a lunatic juxtaposition of melee and ranged combat equipment, wherein the ranged aspect is entirely mitigated. The blade does not switch to liberal bullet spraying mode with an impressive technical whirring akin to something from Transformers. The ?gun? aspect constitutes a trigger which it hit just as you attack in battle, essentially smiting your foe with a guaranteed critical hit. It?s a mechanic exclusive to the weapon, but its utility is befuddling. Am I firing? invisible bullets? Mankind shall surely quail before the might of my bizarre amalgamation of weapons! If you want to shoot somebody right in the eyeball, use a gun. Conversely, stabtastic action can only be achieved via a sword. Attempting to implement both at once yields only a sword with an entirely superfluous trigger in the handle.

Would you insert two feet of steel death into the barrel of your ballistics, then proceed to lament that fact that it no longer has the capacity to damn well shoot anything? You would not. As such, this entire concept is rendered awesome-albeit-befuddling.

The national security policy Obama and Romney won?t debate

Robert Gibbs was holding court in the press room at last week?s second presidential debate at Hofstra University. The former White House press secretary turned senior adviser to the Obama campaign had a single-minded mission of boosting the president to quote-obsessed reporters. So it is easy to imagine Gibbs? exasperation when he began being hectored by video journalists from the activist group We Are Change.

Their recently released three-minute video of the encounter is mostly familiar footage of a campaign mouthpiece trying to deflect off-message questions from unknown reporters. Asked about drone attacks, Gibbs retreated to the kind of non-responsive answer that he used to deliver from the lectern in the White House press room: ?When there are people who are trying to harm us -- and have pledged to bring terror to these shores -- we've taken that fight to them."

What came next is what makes this press room face-off sadly emblematic of larger truths. The question involved the drone killing a year ago in Yemen of a United States citizen, the 16-year-old son of American-born cleric and al-Qaida leader Anwar al-Awlaki.

[Political junkie? Sign up for the Yahoo! News Daily Ticket newsletter today]

This was Gibbs? cold-blooded answer about the lesson from this murder from the skies: ?I would suggest that you should have a far more responsible father if they are truly concerned about the well-being of their children. I don?t think become an al-Qaida jihadist terrorist is the best way to go about doing your business.?

All the perfumes of Arabia will not wash that one away.

Yes, Gibbs was provoked. And he has not held a governmental role since he left the White House in early 2011. (At the time, Barack Obama praised Gibbs, who was earning $172,200 a year, for ?going 24/7 with relatively modest pay?). So these ghoulish pick-your-parents-carefully comments by Gibbs were not a statement of official administration policy.

Yet Gibbs was one of Obama?s closest advisers during the early days of the administration when the president began personally picking the suspected terrorists who would be targeted by drone attacks. So Gibbs is familiar with the presidential rationale for these targeted killings and the collateral damage that sometimes accompanies them. As a result, Gibbs? answer carries more policy weight than, say, a response from Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who chairs the Democratic National Committee.

The mindset surrounding the drone attacks is analogous to Richard Nixon?s declaration, ?When the president does it, that means that it?s not illegal.? In this case, Gibbs was saying, in effect, ?When the president kills you with a drone strike, that means you are a terrorist.? And if you are an American citizen like the 16-year-old Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, then you too are fair game.

Except that this teenager was not with his father when he died in 2011. As Tom Junod reported in Esquire, Abdulrahman al-Awlaki had not seen his father in two years and was searching for him -- haunted as many boys are by the missing imprint of a male parent. Given the blanket of executive secrecy surrounding the president?s kill list, we do not know why the group of relatives and friends that he was eating dinner with by the side of the road was targeted by a drone.

(Gibbs presumably incorrectly assumed that Abdulrahman al-Awlaki was collateral damage in the drone attack that killed Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen. At the time, Obama declared, ?The death of Awlaki is a major blow to al-Qaida?s most active operational affiliate).

Drone strikes are not, as Gibbs clearly understood, a major voting issue in this campaign. And for that sliver of the electorate concerned about this airborne assassination program, November 6 offers scant choice, unless you want to cast a minor-party protest vote. Mitt Romney -- whose overall tone in this campaign has been more hawkish than Obama?s -- unhesitatingly embraced the president?s drone policy during Monday night?s final debate.

The Washington Post reported this week that the Obama administration is developing a ?disposition matrix? for its next-generation terrorist assassination program. (The adjective Orwellian is over-used, but it is undeniably apt for a kill list being euphemistically reworked as a ?disposition matrix?).

During the Vietnam War, George Aiken, a Republican senator from Vermont, suggested that America should declare victory and come home. Eleven years after the Sept. 11 attacks and 18 months after the death of Osama bin Laden, it is time to debate how long America is justified in using drone attacks against the remnants of al-Qaida and other groups of loosely affiliated terrorists.

Is this war without end, amen? Does the bureaucratic momentum of the drone program mean that it will continue for decades? Is there another kind of disposition matrix that will tell us when the costs of the drone program (from terrorist recruiting to collateral damage) outweigh its benefits?

Obviously, America should not relax its vigilance against terrorist threats. (Of course, heavy-handed airport security is another story). But drone strikes are a form of military convenience ? no boots on the ground and no American casualties (aside from the stray teenager in Yemen). And at a certain point, it becomes difficult to justify both practically and morally such extraordinary measures based on a horrible morning in 2001.

But, alas, that kind of debate will not be conducted during the last 12 days of the presidential race or anytime soon.

Robert Gibbs? callous commentary under duress in the press room at Hofstra is not a definitive administration statement. But it is troubling how little else we have to go on to understand the drone attacks that may indeed be Barack Obama?s most enduring national security initiative.

2013 Budget Stirs House, Executive Face-Off | OSUN DEFENDER

house commite

The battle line seems drawn as Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Abdulmumin Jubrin challenges Finance Minister Okonjo-Iwaela and Central Bank of Nigerian (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to public debate. Jubrin was the Chairman, Joint Committees of the Legislative Budget and Research of National Planning and Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt that considered the 2013-2015 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP). Victor Oluwasegun and Dele Anofi report.

The Legislative Budget & Research Committee of the House of Representatives is the engine room for the National Assembly?s Budget and Research Office (NABRO). For the first time since the return of democracy in 1999, the office actually did an analysis of the budget (in this case, the 2013-2015 Medium Term Expenditure Framework submitted by President Goodluck Jonathan) as required in the Fiscal Responsibilities Act, 2007. The committee in conjunction with the House committees on Finance, National Planning & Economic Development and Aids, Loans & Debt Management , in its report on the MTEF, recommended that the benchmark be increased from $75 to $80 per barrel of crude oil. This has been a source of conflict between the House and the Executive.

Indication that the battle between the House and the Executive on the 2013 budget may have just have begun, emerged when the Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Dr. Abdulmumin Jubrin challenged the Minister of Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the Governor of Central Bank, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to a public debate on the feasibility or otherwise of the $80 benchmark for the 2013 budget.

According to the lawmaker, there seems to be more to it than meet the eye concerning the stiff opposition from the Executive to the slight increment of $5 to the proposed $75 . He said the economic management team of President Goodluck Jonathan must, therefore, be courageous enough to prove beyond doubt why the $80 benchmark should be discarded. Jubrin noted that the only way to convince Nigerians is for both parties (House of Representatives and the Executive) to engage in a public debate for Nigerians to have the benefit of merits and demerits of the contending issue.

Besides, he posited that the Executive must be able to disprove 2013 forecast for international oil price at between $100to $120. According to him, key international forecast agencies, like the Energy Information Agency, the Barclays, the Credit Swiss, the Dutch Bank and the City Group put their projections at between $ 120 and $100 while the average of all their forecast was pegged at between $100 and $105.

He reiterated Speaker Aminu Tambuwal?s emphatic declaration that the 2013 budget would be anchored on $80 bench mark. Jubrin, however, expressed confidence that the Executive would have no better argument against the House?s position. In his words: ?They will not have any superior argument, mark me and if they can, the Executive that I know, would have responded the first time we started talking. They have nothing superior to tell Nigerians than this point we have given. This is a pro-people analysis and position and they don?t have anything to say other than this. I am challenging them to a public debate, the Minister of Finance, the Governor of Central Bank, the DG of Budget Office and others involved in drawing up the document. Let us all face Nigerians a put our facts before them?.

To buttress his argument on the defects inherent in the budget proposal of $75 benchmark by the Executive, the lawmaker regretted that those saddled with the management of the economy seemed to be incompetent and unwilling to consult widely in the process of preparing the document.

?A very important factor that we discovered and which is quite disgraceful is that the position of MTEF is at variance with the position of most of these MDAs. Most of these agencies don?t even know the content of MTEF. We were the ones that gave them copies of the MTEF. So, it is convenient for us to draw conclusion that the MTEF is just a product of one to three people that are saddled with the management of our economy. There wasn?t wide consultation, it is not a national consultation but just a product of few people that believe that they can sit and write policies for this country and write MTEF for this country and write the budget of this country, which is why I said it without mincing my words,? he said.

The lawmaker also urged Nigerians to be wise to the antics of the Executive that would always want to present one aspect of an issue rather than avail the people the opportunity of all aspects to the issue. Contrary to the Executive?s claims that savings, among other parameters, would be badly affected if the benchmark was jerked up to $80, Jubrin said the Executive has not been forthcoming on the true analysis of the situation. While he stressed that the lawmakers were not against savings, he regretted that the country?s economic managers have not been fair to Nigerians through unreasonable savings. He said, ?You know that crude is going for about $110 as it is, if we peg the benchmark at $75, for instance, if the international price of crude as at today is $100 and we peg the benchmark at $75, it means that for every barrel of crude that you sell, $75 will go into financing of the budget and extra $25 should go into savings because this savings is the excess crude account and the Sovereign Wealth Fund. So what we are saying is that we are increasing the benchmark to $80 because we are convinced, after our analysis, that it is safe for us to increase it by $5. The implication of this is that rather than save $25, you will now have $20 to save. All we are taking away from them is just $5 out of the excess to service our budget deficit. So why are they resistant to it? Are we throwing the money in the river or are we taking it to go and share for our people in the villages? No, we are using it to help the economy; rather than taking it and dumping it in that place like European and American banks at a giveaway interest at the expense of the country, we are saying they should take part of it and invest it today which is the bone of contention?.

Another loophole which the Jubrin picked in the budget proposal is the bloated recurrent expenditure which he said the government has not been able address. He expressed disappointment that despite all the noise over cutting the cost of running government, the Executive has not been able to reduce recurrent expenditure to an appreciable level. ?These are part of the problems that we addressed during the MTEF. We had expected that in the MTEF because it is a medium term plan, so it is for 2013 ? 2015, we will receive a systematic and clear-cut strategy to reduce recurrent expenditure drastically but it is not contained in the MTEF. I am so disappointed in the Minister of Finance because we made recommendation about that in the earlier MTEF.

?I had thought that one area where she would have shown her competence is to be able to drastically reduce recurrent expenditure and if you ask them how they intend to reduce it, they will not give you figure but percentage. They are taking advantage of Nigerians because a lot of people are not enlightened about these things. Now, what they are saying is that they have reduced the recurrent expenditure by 3%. Why are they scared of converting it to monetary value? Let people understand from a real perspective of the budget provisions. The implication of this is that they want to continue to promote recklessness in spending and that shows how incompetent they are?,

Jubrin also faulted the claims of the Executive that the $5 increment would put pressure on exchange rate and inflation. He said ?I told all the agencies that came during our engagement during the MTEF deliberations to quantify the impact that a $5 will have on our exchange rate and on inflation; they have not been able to do that. We have also asked them if they have problem with this increment just for the singular reason of reducing the deficit and consequently reducing government domestic borrowing to create space for the private sector but they have not responded. The final reason they always give which is very important is that it will make more money available for the State and Local Government which they will mismanage because they believe that every Nigerian is corrupt and that they are the only people who are credible. I am not holding brief for State Governors but I think it is an insult to all State Governors that being against $5 was because it means more money for State Governors to misuse. I am calling on the State Governors to listen to this and now respond to the Ministry of Finance and the Minister. When we talk this way, they say that we want to bring down the country, shut down the economy.

Jubrin however advised the Finance Minister, Ngozi Oknojo-Iweala to resign her appointment if she cannot manage the economy with the $80 benchmark as the House would not shift ground on its decision. He said for the Minister to undermine the Appropriation Act when it becomes operational would amount to breaking the law. ?The Minister of Finance would have to resign her position If she can not comply with the provisions of the Appropriation Act because that would amount to breaking the law. By the time the budget is passed, it becomes law that everybody must comply with. We are talking from the point of law because our position on the issue of bench mark would be backed by the law and if she cannot relate with it, it would be better for her to resign rather break the law?.

Cambodia deports Chinese woman in royal photo row

Associated Press

Wang Zia Chao, 43, a Chinese factory supervisor, is escorted by Cambodian police officers after being detained, on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia in this photo taken October 22. AP

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia?Cambodia has deported a Chinese woman convicted of desecrating photos of the country?s recently deceased former king in front of enraged factory workers.

National police spokesman Lt. Gen. Kirt Chantharith said Wang Zia Chao left Cambodia on Wednesday to return to China?s Guangdong province.

A Cambodian court on Tuesday gave the garment factory supervisor a one-year suspended jail sentence and fined her 2.5 million riel ($620) for seizing pictures of former King Norodom Sihanouk from workers and destroying them. She had accused the employees of shirking their work.

Tuesday was the end of a week of official mourning for Sihanouk, who died at age 89 in Beijing on October 15. His body was returned to Cambodia on October 17.

iPad mini won't upset low-end market: analysts

(Reuters) - Apple Inc's "iPad mini" will attract new customers but the higher-than-expected price is unlikely to make it a threat to low-cost tablets such as Amazon.com Inc's Kindle, analysts said, in a muted reaction to the new tablet.

Only a few analysts revise their price targets for Apple's shares ahead of the company's quarterly results announcement on Thursday. The shares were flat at $615 in morning trade on the Nasdaq.

Canaccord Genuity raised its target on the stock to $800 from $797, while Barclays Capital cut its to $800 from $810.

The 7.9-inch mini version of the iPad has most of the functions and features of the full-size $499 iPad but is cheaper by $170.

However, the $329 price for the Wi-Fi only model was higher than many analysts had expected and some said the gadget might struggle to compete with the cheaper Amazon Kindle Fire and Google Inc's Nexus 7, which have prices starting in the $159-$199 range.

The device may also lure buyers away from Apple's flagship 10-inch tablet, they said.

"We were hoping the price would be at least a little lower given its competition is situated as low as $99, with many starting in the $199-$249 range," Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes said.

His new price target of $800 is more in line with those of other analysts, although most targets are still well above Apple's current share price.

Demand for Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle Fire is unlikely to be much affected by the launch of the mini given the significant price gap, Nomura Equity Research said.

On a positive note, the high price made it less likely that the device would eat into Apple's margins, the brokerage said.

Barclays estimated iPad mini sales at more than 5 million units in the December quarter, while Canaccord Genuity forecast sales of 9.25 million units during the three months. Apple sold about 17 million iPads in the quarter ended June.

The iPad mini will help Apple reach a new customer base that may not have been able to afford the higher-end version, Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley said.

"While we believe these strong sales will come largely at the expense of Apple's competition, we concede iPad Mini will likely cannibalize iPad and iPod Touch sales," Walkley wrote in a research note.

Despite the cannibalization, the mini should greatly expand the market for iPads, whose sales have exceeded 100 million units in just two-and-a-half years after the tablet was introduced, Needham & Co analyst Charlie Wolf said.

Apple will enjoy a very happy holiday season on its refreshed product line and because of the "hopelessly backlogged" iPhone 5 orderbook, he said.

Stocks recoup losses in late rally on Wall Street

NEW YORK (AP) ? A late buying spree erased early losses on Wall Street, leaving indexes with modest gains at the close of trading.

The Dow Jones industrial average came back from a 108-point deficit to end the day up two points at 13,346 on Monday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed up less than a point at 1,434. The Nasdaq composite index ended with a gain of 11 points at 3,017.

Stocks spent much of the day lower following a disappointing batch of earnings from companies including Hasbro, clothing maker VF Corp. and SunTrust banks.

Falling stocks slightly outnumbered rising ones on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume was in line with the recent average, 3.2 billion shares.

89% Frankenweenie

Tim Burton's stop-motion remake of his own 30-minute short is a cute movie, even with the creepy subject matter. It's the story of a boy and his dog and coming to terms with loss, although that seems to get stalled since the kid brings his dog back to life. Frankenweenie is, as my pal Eric said, Burton's love letter to the Universal monsters of old, as other kids resurrect their pets into mummies, vampires, werewolves, etc. As a story, it's pretty plain and seems thin and padded out. The animation is fun to watch but I couldn't shake my questions about the character design. It feels like the only parts that move on these bulky faces are their tiny mouths. It's a strange design that undercuts the animators' efforts, and I couldn't help comparing it to the superior and expressive animation from ParaNorman. I'd say this is the weakest stop-motion film with Burton's name attached to it, but by no means is Frankenweenie a bad film. It's got some fun jokes and any story about the loss of a beloved pet is going to have plenty of heart. There are some pretty solid jokes but they all seem to pool in the first act. I enjoyed Sparky the dog's romance with the neighboring poodle, more so than any of the human relationships. Beyond the kid/dog aspect, I found it hard to engage with the movie. If you have to see one stop-motion animated film about the supernatural, check out ParaNorman instead. Nate's Grade: B-

Coronary angioplasty improves cardiac arrest survival

ScienceDaily (Oct. 17, 2012) ? Coronary angioplasty improves survival in all patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest, according to research presented at the Acute Cardiac Care Congress 2012. The study was presented by Dr Annamaria Nicolino from the Santa Corona General Hospital in Pietra Ligure, Italy.

The Acute Cardiac Care Congress 2012 is the first annual meeting of the newly launched Acute Cardiovascular Care Association (ACCA) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). It takes place during 20-22 October in Istanbul, Turkey, at the Istanbul Lufti Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Centre (ICEC).

Out of hospital cardiac arrest is a leading cause of mortality and acute coronary occlusion is the leading cause of cardiac arrest. It is well known that when an electrocardiogram (ECG) shows that a patient has ST elevation, primary angiography must be done as soon as possible. If severe coronary disease is found, coronary angioplasty with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is performed to open the blocked vessel.

But Dr Nicolino said: "There is controversy about what to do when a patient with out of hospital cardiac arrest has a normal ECG that does not show ST elevation. ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines are inconclusive -- they say to consider performing coronary angiography but they don't say 'do it' or 'don't do it'."

She added: "Some previous studies have found that if the ECG is normal (no ST elevation) the patient can still have severe coronary disease and therefore needs a coronary angiography, followed by coronary angioplasty, to clear the blocked vessel."

The current study aimed to discover whether performing urgent coronary angiography, and PCI if required, would improve survival in all patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest (both those with ST elevation and those without).

The study included 70 patients who had out of hospital cardiac arrest between 2006 and 2009. Successful urgent coronary angiography and PCI improved hospital survival in all patients with acute coronary syndrome. The treatment increased hospital survival rates in patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) from 51% to 83% (p=0.003) and in non-STEMI (NSTEMI) patients from 55% to 81% (p=0.004).

"In our study, a successful urgent coronary angioplasty improved hospital survival in patients with STEMI and NSTEMI," said Dr Nicolino. "All patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest, if there is no non-cardiac cause, must have an urgent coronary angiography followed by coronary angioplasty if there is coronary disease."

Non-cardiac causes of cardiac arrest which should be ruled out before performing coronary angiography are trauma, brain haemorrhage and metabolic problems such as severe hypoglycaemia.

Dr Nicolino added: "ECG results can be misleading -- we found that ECG detected just one-third of acute coronary syndrome in NSTEMI patients. This means that even if the ECG is not showing ST elevation, you cannot rule out an acute coronary syndrome. Coronary angiography should be performed urgently to see if there is any acute coronary disease which needs treatment with PCI."

Post-resuscitation neurologic injury (PNI) was the biggest complication. This can occur if resuscitation is not performed early enough, since the brain's blood supply stops during cardiac arrest. The 32.8% of patients who had PNI were at the greatest risk of death. Early signs of PNI were associated with underuse of coronary angioplasty and PCI.

Provided there was no neurological injury, MI patients who had angioplasty after cardiac arrest achieved the same one-year survival rates as patients with MI alone.

The first heart rhythm was a ventricular fibrillation (VF) or a ventricular tachycardia (VT) in 62% of patients. Most of these patients had an acute coronary syndrome (STEMI or NSTEMI). The incidence of VF and VT was the same in STEMI and NSTEMI patients. "For many years we have thought that patients with STEMI have a greater arrhythmic risk than NSTEMI patients," said Dr Nicolino. "But we found that both STEMI and NSTEMI patients are at high risk of arrhythmias."

She added: "If the first recorded rhythm is a VF or a VT an acute coronary syndrome is highly probable and it's important to perform a coronary angiography immediately without waiting for a diagnosis of infarction (using an enzyme test)."

Dr Nicolino concluded: "Patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest must be managed by cardiologists, intensive care doctors and anaesthesiologists. This team can save the brain from injury using cooling therapy, and save the heart and life of the patient using coronary angioplasty."

Tom in keeping with keeping the cost down and the aspect of noise causing any audible thing to not be heard adding to the aggravation of the person trying to get your attention, If you can why not simply mount a bulb of some sort of color go with blue like the cops and then route a few feet of flex cord into the house to a switch which can be used to turn the blue light on or off.

That way the blue light can be set on and left on and when you look up or around or whatever you see its on call. When you go back inside reset the switch to off and you good to go next time.

Cost is minimal and no sophistication to go wrong. Pretty clear when light is on get ass in gear and come inside. Mount it at a height that takes into consideration small kids playing fool with you or alternatively if they aint an issue in your house mount it low so one could get to it in an emergency.

How can meditation assist in pain management ? Health ? Bangor ...

http://www.pcatprepinfo.com/images/pill.jpg

Meditation as a practice is considered to have begun over 6000 years ago, and is a practice that takes many varieties of form in the present. Some meditation techniques involve focussing on the breath, such as Vipassna , while other practices advocate chanting of a mantra such as Om to focus the mind and keep it in the present.

These meditation practices are passive and take a lot of practice, although the benefits of mastering these specific types of meditation are long lasting and profound. These types of meditation are usually considered more spiritual than other types, although you can certainly practice these methods without a spiritual inclination.

Other types of meditation are more activity based ? my sister meditates every day while washing dishes at the kitchen sink, as she allows her mind to de-focus and relax and finds this very soothing. There are also practices such as dynamic meditation, which involves shaking the body vigorously and making spontaneous sounds, which is said to release deep buried emotions and will ultimately benefit the physical and mental health of the individual.

And then there are guided meditations which take the individual on a guided imagery journey with the purpose of achieving deep relaxation without the danger of being sidetracked by the ego. If you?ve ever tried to meditate and found yourself making shopping lists or to-do lists you?ll know why this type of meditation might be useful.

Regardless of which type of meditation you choose, the practice itself has enormous health benefits ? improvements are typically experienced with heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, adrenal gland function, immune system function, and so on. Other benefits of meditation include a clearer mind, becoming more aligned with one?s life purpose, improved presence (or being in the Now) and increased feelings of wellbeing.

And unlike other Chronic Back Pain Treatment and Chronic Back Pain Management for stress, like medication, meditation has no side effects to speak of.

Personal Statement for Masters of Economics @ LSE

Since I haven't yet quit my job, I anonymized myself and my company. Please feel free to throw me your thoughts, comments and editing tips. The instructions from LSE are:

You must submit a personal statement with your application form. This should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words. It should describe your academic interests and your purpose and objectives in undertaking graduate study.

And a link to their guide on personal statements: lse.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/howToApply/makingAnApplication/personalS tatement/whatMakesAGoodPersonalStatement.aspx

Thanks!!

On Monday March 10th, 2008, I started employment as an Assistant Trader with the convertible bond arbitrage desk of Company X in Sydney, Australia. By the following Monday, Bear Stearns had sold itself to JP Morgan Chase, representing a dramatic acceleration of the ongoing financial crisis. The following four and half years was perhaps one of the most interesting times in economic history, and I consider myself lucky to have witnessed it from behind a trading desk. However, all that I learned from observing the causes and consequences of the crisis only led me to discover the limitations of my own economic education. This is what I wish to address by pursuing a Masters of Economics with the London School of Economics. For as our world's leaders grapple with challenges ranging from unsustainable sovereign debt, trade and competitiveness imbalances, environmental degradation and rising unemployment and inequality, economists will be called upon to provide modelling, analysis and policy recommendations. My career goal is to be involved in these policy decisions, and I believe that LSE can provide a solid academic base for a future career in shaping economic policy.

My interest in becoming part of the policy making process is rooted in my experience working for Company X. I was hired for my ability to think through issues and problems in a probabilistic and quantitative way. Building on this foundation, I learned about the structure of capital markets, stock, bond and options pricing, and how macroeconomics affects the capital markets over two years as an Assistant Trader. This was followed by a promotion to Trader, where I have since managed Company X's stock option market making operations. I was responsible for devising and implementing proprietary trading strategies, managing my portfolios risk, and mentoring Assistant Traders. Since volatility is a key input into any options pricing model, I was keenly aware of events that led to spikes in global volatility, such as the failure of Lehman Brothers, the ongoing European debt crisis, Japan's March 2011 earthquake and the downgrading of US sovereign debt by S&P in August 2011. As a market participant, I witnessed how effective - and ineffective - policy could be in influencing economic outcomes. I am particularly interested in monetary policy and central banking, since managing today's unprecedented environment of zero interest rates and quantitative easing will require keen foresight by central bankers for years to come.

Indeed, one of the worlds most influential central bankers is a former professor of LSE, Sir Mervyn King. His name is but one of many in long lists of distinguished students and faculty of LSE who went on to meaningfully affect the world around them. This focus on real world change is the primary reason I wish to attend LSE. A Masters degree will help build on my existing knowledge and provide an academic framework for understanding some of the concepts that I absorbed during my trading career. The international environment of LSE is ideal for fostering broader views on the dynamics of the global economy. I wish for my worldview to be challenged and questioned so that I may better understand it. I have always been curious about how the world works, and I feel myself pushing the boundaries of what a trading desk can teach me. Graduate study at LSE is where I believe I can continue my education to its full potential.

Though I did not take economics in my undergraduate courses, I majored in statistics (with honours) and history which I regard as a singularly useful combination of fields for understanding the economic state of the world. Statistics, for its power to interpret the models that simulate our world, and history for providing a sense of context. In my statistics component, I gained an appreciation for how stochastic models work by constructing a model of infectious disease transmission and analysing simulated data using a novel statistical technique called Approximate Bayesian Computation. This work later contributed to a scholarly article published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (The epidemiological fitness cost of drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Authors A, B and C (2009). PNAS, 106, 14711-14715). In my history component, I was a keen student of Early Modern England, Weimar Germany and the Great Depression, all of which were periods of profound economic change. More recently, I have kept up with contemporary literature on economics and finance as part of my employment, such as "Red Capitalism: The Fragile Financial Foundation of China's Extraordinary Rise" and "Finance and the Good Society". Indeed, I believe that what I have learned over the course of my employment will be particularly useful in contributing to the economic debate at LSE.

To best utilise my education with LSE, I have a number of potential employers that I plan to apply to upon graduation. These include the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, Reserve Bank of Australia, the Australian Treasury, and independent economic policy advisers. Irrespective of who I am eventually employed by, I intend to advocate for sound economic policies that will moderate inevitable business cycles and promote sustainable prosperity through free markets and trade. I will count my career a success if I can look back and point to ideas and actions that potentially prevented an economic crisis such as in 2008.

For while I have greatly enjoyed my time with Company X and have been shown a whole new way of perceiving the world, I have reached the limits of what I can learn there. One of the most valuable lessons that I have taken away is that trading is a reactive job. A trader constantly reacts to events around them, and their success is largely determined by how well they react. I wish to instead be part of the forces that act for the economic betterment of society, and measure my success by the quality of my ideas. I believe that a Masters of Economics at LSE provides the best avenue to that success.

Zimmerman can see Trayvon school records, judge says

The parents of Trayvon Martin responded to George Zimmerman's defense team's request to release their son's school records, saying they "shouldn't make dead children seem as though they are the perpetrator."

By Kari Huus, NBC News

?

Updated at 3:40 p.m. ET: A judge ruled on Friday that attorneys for George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch leader charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, can have access to the dead teen's school records and social media accounts.

Circuit Judge Debra Nelson, who is the new presiding judge in this highly publicized and emotional case, said that Zimmerman's attorneys can subpoena Trayvon Martin's schools for his discipline records but must keep anything they obtain private.

"I think that you're entitled to those records," Nelson said during the hearing at the Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford, Fla.

The judge also granted Zimmerman's request to subpoena Trayvon's social media records, which were removed from the Internet after his death,?as well as those of a girl who says she was on the phone with him before the shooting.

?

Before the proceedings started, Martin's?family held a news conference that took a preemptive strike against the subpoena of those?records.

"We think it?s a terrible precedent to set," said attorney Ben Crump, who held a press conference with Trayvon Martin?s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton. "Why is it relevant about his school records or his Facebook page? George Zimmerman knew none of that on Feb. 26 when he claimed Trayvon's life."

The shooting took place when Zimmerman encountered Martin, 17, who was unarmed and walking through the Sanford neighborhood where his father lives.

Zimmerman, 29,?has pleaded not guilty and?is set to face trial June 10, 2013. He remains out on bail and is in seclusion.

Zimmerman?appeared in court wearing a suit and tie, and he sat quietly while his attorney Mark O?Mara made his case for access to the records.

O?Mara said the defense wants the Twitter and Facebook accounts "in their entirety" of Martin as well as a witness ? a girl who was on the phone with him when he encountered Zimmerman. The girl was not named because she is a juvenile.

O?Mara conceded that it "sounds horrible" to evaluate the reputation of the shooting victim, but he said that the records were crucial to showing that his client did not act with "ill will or hatred" of Martin.

"The issue in this case is who did what during those couple of minutes that we don?t know what happened," O'Mara said.?

Zimmerman maintains that Martin attacked him and beat him.

O?Mara told the judge that although the Facebook and Twitter accounts had been removed from the Internet, he has been able to access ? though not authenticate ? enough of the social media accounts to demonstrate that "that information could be very, very relevant to my defense."

Benjamin Crump, attorney for Trayvon Martin's parents, speaks to reporters prior to a hearing on whether the court will allow the teen's school records to be included in a trial of his shooter George Zimmerman. Crump is flanked by Trayvon's father Tracy Martin, left, and his mother Sybrina Fulton.

Crump, the attorney for Martin's family, said that if the court calls for the release of Martin's?school records and social media postings, the family would demand the release of Zimmerman?s medical records, which he argued were far more relevant to finding out what happened on the night of Martin's?killing.

Watch US News crime videos on NBCNews.com

"If this was your child who was shot and killed, wouldn't you want to know ? if there were drugs that influenced (the shooter?s) judgment or decision making?" he said.

On Friday, Judge Nelson did grant a prosecution request for Zimmerman's medical records, though?she said she will review the medical records first to decide whether anything should be withheld.

This was the first hearing in the highly publicized case to come before Nelson, who replaced the previous judge, Kenneth Lester, in August after a judicial panel found that Lester had begun to form opinions about Zimmerman that could affect his impartiality.

Martin's family?also announced the establishment of a Change for Trayvon committee that will press for a change in Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, which could be used in Zimmerman?s defense. That law allows use of force in self-defense when there is a reasonable belief of an unlawful threat.

Martin's parents said they want the wording of the law to state that someone cannot instigate a fight and then claim self-defense.

A matter of choice: Flashback Friday - Home improvements

A rather random flashback but as we approach the winter season and many people here are coming to the end of their seasonal work contracts there is lots of talk of plans for home improvements (well, mainly from the women whose men will suddenly be off work, not so much from the men themselves! )

It made me think of the biggest and best home improvement we've ever done, with the possible exception of building a wall and creating a bedroom for Leo (when I say we, clearly I mean I made tea and Aaron worked!)

When we moved into our first house together back in 2003 the garden needed a lot of work, so much in fact that we left it for several years while we worked out what we could do to make it better. ?The problem was a raised section that was?separated?from the rest by a huge wall that was also on a steep slope and not really big enough to do anything with.

After much debating, discussion and drawing of plans we decided that decking the whole thing would be a good idea. ?We did not have the money to pay someone to do it, so despite the fact that neither my Dad or Aaron had done it before they decided to give it a go and do it themselves.

It took 2 weeks of very hard work, lots of cups of tea and many bacon sandwiches but look what they created!

I loved my new garden so much and was full of plans for lovely evenings sitting out on the deck - Aaron even had the genius idea of putting a double power point on it for a light and stereo. ?I used to finish work at 5pm and on a sunny day had just enough time to catch the last of the days sun by sitting right at the top next to the big plant pot whilst drinking a glass of wine!

Unfortunately?we didn't get to use the deck all that much, it was built at the?beginning?of a really?rubbish?summer, and we spent most of it looking out the window through the rain at our lovely new garden! ? We had a huge?BBQ?planned for Aaron's birthday that year and it poured so hard with rain that we had to go out and buy a second gazebo for people to stand under! ?The only time we had friends round that whole year and no-one even ventured up that far!

Although I still feel a bit sad that we didn't get to use it ourselves I think it was the improved garden that sold the house for us. The couple that came to view loved it and got very?excited?about the parties they could have out there (I didn't like to mention it would probably rain!).

We sold the house just before the recession started and all the prices dropped so we were very lucky to have sold when we did so it was still a very worthwhile DIY project. ?I still miss my new garden even though we have a big balcony with a lovely view, although I don't miss the weather!
