Travel articles ?? Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:48Canada or Alaska?
It is easy to see why lovers of the great outdoors would relish a holiday in either of these destinations. Canada and Alaska holidays are ideal options for those who want to enjoy the stunning scenery of these northern locations. Both boast an amazing range of natural attractions in terms of unspoiled landscapes, towering peaks and rugged, beautiful coastlines. In addition, they are both perfect places to enjoy adventure holidays for families, with the chance to experience many different outdoor activities such as white-water rafting, horse riding or kayaking, just to name a few.
The big decision would therefore be, which destination to choose for the perfect family holiday? It may be tempting to think of both places as very similar but there are differences, which may help you decide. Whichever you choose, however, you will be assured of an amazing holiday.
Alaska
Alaska is huge and this vastness is part of its attraction. It is easy to find solitude in Alaska and its small population means that the majority of the state is unspoiled and pristine. Most visitors to Alaska like to explore the national parks, the most visited are Denali, Kenai Fjords and Wrangell-St Elias.
Denali is home to Mount McKinley, North America's highest peak and the slopes abound with wildlife making it extremely popular amongst hikers. Kenai Fjords, as its name suggests, is the place to go to see glaciers including Exit Glacier. Cruises around Resurrection Bay give visitors the chance to see whales, seals and innumerable sea birds. Wrangell-St Elias borders Yukon Territory and is the largest National Park in the U.S. There are huge mountain ranges, rapidly flowing rivers as well as glaciers.
Like all of Alaska, there is a huge variety of flora and fauna on view in the park. The wildlife, the scenery and the tranquillity make Alaska a unique holiday destination.
Canada
Like Alaska, Canada is also huge. It boasts many of the same attractions as Alaska in terms of its natural beauty and access to wildlife though this is coupled with a number of interesting and beautiful city destinations. The national parks of Canada are popular for visitors, there are 41 of them but three are particularly popular. Jaspar National Park is in the Canadian Rockies and thanks to its remoteness teems with flora and fauna as well as a number of glaciers. There are also hot springs and a lake within the park boundaries.
Banff National Park, also in the Rockies, is the place to go for those who love adventure. Climbing, hiking, cycling and white-water rafting are all on offer within the park, as well as the chance to meet moose and big horn sheep. The Yoho National Park is also perfect for hiking and climbing with its alpine peaks and clear waterfalls. If it is city life that you are looking for then a visit to a city like Vancouver will appeal. Vancouver mixes modernity with Native American culture. This is a beautiful city with historic areas, an amazing skyline and a good nightlife.
The chance to see animals in their natural environment, the truly spectacular scenery and the chance to enjoy exhilarating activities make both Alaska and Canada wonderful places to go on holiday. There is so much to do and so much to enjoy in both places that you are guaranteed a truly memorable holiday.
